Climate and Clean Energy

Tortuga grantees work to stop the expansion of oil and gas extraction and exports in order to prevent the impacts of climate change. Reducing fossil fuel production protects local communities from pollution and creates space and opportunity for clean energy technologies to enter the market. This strategy also includes support for efforts to stop plastics, as oil and gas are feedstocks for petrochemical and consumer plastics.

Tortuga supports programs aimed at advancing a transition to a clean energy economy. Grantees are working to facilitate adoption of clean energy technologies including solar, battery storage, offshore wind, and geothermal – primarily at the state level.

Tortuga also supports organizations working at the nexus of our Clean Energy and Land Conservation programs. Efforts focus on mining campaigns and renewable energy permitting.
